Ulic commenced his formal education with the Marist Brothers in Bendigo,&completed his schooling
at the local school when his family returned to live in Boort. Likehis brothers before him, Ulic too
worked for local farmers, namely Messrs Bert & Reg Smith. From the earlyage of fifteen he was responsible for working a team of horses.
Following the outbreak of theSecond World War, Ulic & Eddie Lang were twoof the first local boys to enlist for service, joining the original 6thBattalion. Ulic was discharged on medical grounds as he was required tohave a hernia repair. Dr Lidgett of Boort performed the operation free ofcharge, enabling
Ulic to re-enlist.
March 6th, 1941, Ulic joined the 2nd/23rd Infantry Battalion,training inPuckapunyal, & later in Perth,
where he trained as a fitter & turner with the armed tanks regiment,before embarking on the Lar Tarakan
for North Borneo in 1945.Ulic took his oath at Royal Park with AlanKeating (6 numbers off Alan's), Alan
Keating's father Dave worked with Ulic fencing around Boort area.
Active service in Borneo 8 months,he like all soldiers who served in thePacific theatre of war, received the Honour Pacific Star. At the end ofthe war Ulic was discharged from the army 19th Oct., 1945.
In 1944, whilst on leave from training in Perth, Ulic married BettyChampion Forrest, on the 9th, Dec,
at St. John's Catholic Church , East Melbourne.
Betty & Ulic had eight children, four daughters & four sons.
All were educated at the local school, with the exception of Des & Loisall have left Boort.
Ulic died at the age of 45 years,Betty was left with a young family agesranged from 3 years to 18 years.
