Parish_Chapel: DeerhurstFrom the birth certificate of her daughter, Doris Beatrice Hawker was a nurse at the mental hospital of Gloucester Street, Wooton-under-Hedge (sic), Gloucestershire in 1929 but the birth was at Cleveland House, Vicarage Road, Wolverhampton. There is a reference to Cleveland House, in the "Wolverhampton Red Book for 1942-3", where it is described as "A hostel and maternity home for women and girls". It was a place where young unmarried women would go to have their illegitimate babies.
In fact the information on the birth certificate is incorrect; the Gloucester Street address was in fact the private residence of Doris Beatrice and her parents and is Wootton-under-Edge rather than Wooton-under-Hedge . The mental hospital where she was a nurse was at a different address, possibly in Wooton.
