Lesley Thomas Hall

Letter from Jan White neice of (Lesley) Tom Hall 25/9/05

UncleTom was well even tho he'd been in hospital 3 times since I firstsaw him back in Feb. It's mainly his chest, not surprising for someonewho had TB back in 1941 and is still on treatment for that. He is apretty unique character, I really felt this time that his family reallymeant nothing to him at all altho he said his parents were very goodparents and has very happy memories of his child hood in Broken Hill andMenindee. He just did his own thing. I said "in all your travels Tomwhere was home?" He replied that he carried his swag on his back andwhere ever he put it down at night that was home. Yet he is not unhappyand I think feels quite safe in the home. He makes me laugh, he blamesthe odd shifts of miners with alot of day time for hanging around on thelarge size of families. He is completely with it and has a great vocab, good manners and a swinkling sense of humour. I feel we all missed out onan experience by not having him around.

An attendant at the hospital said that Tom couldn't figure out why wewanted to find him after all these years, so he has something to wonderabout. He believes in destiny so I wonder what he'll make of thisintervention in his life?
