Telephone conversation with David Patterson on 10 June 2001.
He had found Rose living at
10 Trees Road
Walsall
with lodger Mr and Mrs Cambell
in electoral register from 1945 to 1964, by which time the lodgers had left
David Patterson thinks she then went into a home.Eric Rock says she moved to a block of flats between The Delves (pub) and The Navigation (pub)
David Patterson has searched for her birth and death certificates with no success. The GRO informed David Patterson that there is no trace of the birth of Rose Rock between 1875 and 1885 nor between 1892 and 1894.
Her date of birth was given on her death certificate as 2 August 1889
David Paterson found the baptismal record of Rose Rock at Stafford Record Office. She was baptised at St Paul's Church, Walsall on 22 August 1889. The record also shows her birth date as 2 August 1889 and her parents as (Samuel) George Rock and Mary Ann Rock.There is no trace of this Rose Rock in the 1901 census although the rest of the family are living at 2 Folly House Cottages, Caldmore, Walsall. Rose would have been 11 years old at the time but is not shown in the census record which is reference: RG13/2704 Folio 183 Page 49. The following searches have been tried:
Surname ROCK, Forename blank, Female aged 11, born in Walsall. No results.
Surname ROCK, Forename blank, Female aged 11, born in Staff*. 8 results.
Surname blank, Forename Rose, Female aged 11, born in Staff*. 105 results.
Torpedoed twice (according to David Patterson) and died at 42 from consumption (according to Eric Rock).
Married a girl from Walsall (according to Eric Rock).

Eagles listed, but his wife is also Joan, so I think the person who
compiled this and gave it to me didn't do very great research. I'll
need to check it out.I don't know if you are interested in adding the descendants of Thomas
Eagles who married Ann Sparks 9 Sep 1804 in Deerhurst. His daughter
Hannah Maria Eagles married Robert Harris. They sailed to America in
1841. My great-grandfather Thomas Eagles Harris was born on the ship
"Echo" enroute to America.Also, the information that I got from my mother indicates that Hannah
Margrate, William Eagle's wife, is a great-granddaughter of John Eagles
(22 Nov 1658) and Susannah Blizzard. She is descended from their
daughter Susannah Eagles (11 May 1683, Deerhurst) who married Thomas
Margrate (16 Nov 1682, Deerhurst) and their son Stephen Margrate (22 Jan
1719, Deerhurst) and Hannah Lovett (15 Dec 1721, Deerhurst).If I can be helpful in any research, I would be happy to try, but since
I'm on the other side of the Big Pond, I don't know how much I can do.
I hope to gather information and biographies/personal histories, so I
can learn more about the people and not just the dates.Thank you for sharing your information on the website.

Thank you for your site. I read about some of my ancestors from the Eag les Family in Apperley, Gloucestershire, England. I am a descendant ot Thomas Eagles and Ann Sparks. There were numerous notes on Hannah Maria Eagles- Harris. She is the sister to Elias Eagles, the 9th son of Thomas and Ann Eagles. Elias married Mary Crook in England and sailed to America in 1845 (I think aboard the Palmyra). They settled in Nauvoo, Illinois and had two children, Mary Ann in Nauvoo and Elizabeth in Burlington, Iowa (Elizabeth is my grandmother). Elias h ad two more children in Burlington, Joseph and Josephine that both died by the end of 1851.
Elias and Mary split up in 1852, Mary and the girls (Mary Ann & Elizabeth) came to Utah. Elias move to Mt. Pleasant, Iowa and in 1861 joined the 14th Iowa Infantry for the Union Army (This can be verified by the official history of the Io wa units in the Civil War... specifically the Iowa 14th Infantry Regiment). Elias and the 14th were involved in the Battles at Fort Henry and Fort Donalson. Now here is the part that very few have ever learned about, most histories just state that they don't know what became of Elias.
Elias was in the Battle of Shiloh Tennessee and died there on 6 April 1862. Elias Eagles was with Gen. Prentiss in the "Hornet's Nest". There was actually a eye witness to this... Jesse Jay, a union soldier that was taken pris oner that day, he mentions the death of Elias Eagles in his diary (Search "Diary of Jesse Jay"). Also you can look up Elias on the Shiloh National Cemetery site. Also all of the military sites on the Iowa 14th Infantry documents this quite well. Elizabeth and Mary Ann, daughters of Elias, both give the middle name of "Elias" to their sons after the Civil War, Willard Elias Coleman and Robert Elias Riddle. So the question about "What happened to Elias?" is answered.
