George Hawker

1Internet, Posting to RootsWeb Hawker board, 29 Nov 2002. "I know Solomon Francis Hawker's father to be George from his (Solomon's) marriage certificate in 1841. His mother is not mentioned (ggrrr). He married in the Baptist Chapel at Cirencester. Lydia Hawker ( b Cleeve 1832) came to Australia on the same ship as Solomon. She was also a baptist. Her parents were George Hawker and Anne Harper. George & Anne were married in Bishops Cleeve in 1812 so I presume Anne to be Solomon's mother also. There is a big gap between Solomon's birth in 1817 and Lydia's in 1832. The IGI lists the baptism in Bishop's Cleeve of George Hawker in 1792 - parents Charles and Frances. 1851 Census has 58 year old George, stonemason (b Southam) living in Woodmancote married to Eliza with a family ranging from 12 to 6 years old. George is mentioned as a stonemason on some certs and a homeopathic chemist on others! As you can see the information is scattered and a lot of presumptions have been made. George's death cert (I think in 1874) may reveal more." Post was edited on 30 Nov 2005.

I believe Lydia Hawker b 1832 is Solomon's sister, she came to Australia on the same ship. I presume their mother (Ann Harper?) died and George remarried Eliza (b 1805, Prescott) and had further children, Ellen 1839, Eli 1841, Daniel 1844 and Eliza in 1845 all born in Southam, GLCS."
