"Ed Green wrote an email to Graham Hawker on 13 November 2000 which stated:
"Found the memorial.  Its a rectangular stone about 4ft high by 2.5ft wide, standing near the
front of the church almost at church level (the cemetry is on a steep slope).  A photo will follow
in due course when I have the film developed (probably this weekend).  The stone is blackened
with age and the lettering is difficult to decipher.  Some of it we couldn't work out, but the gist
of it is:
 
PRAY
FOR THE SOUL OF
SAMUEL ROCK
who died 4th September 1788
Aged 66 Years
 
In the 40th year of his age he became
from conviction and the force of truth a
convert to the Catholic church and
continued a faithful member of it to his
Death from sincere love of his countrymen
and desire of leading them to the same
blessing.  He, while in perfect health, by
his last Will and Testament and order of
this declaration . . . . . . . .(last couple of
lines can't be read).
 
May his soul Rest In Peace.
 
Its a shame about the missing text, but the stone is over 200 years old and the industrial
atmosphere locally can't have helped much.  Enjoyed the day very much anyway."."
